The best thing a student of Tajweed could start with, is learning Makharij Al Huroof, in order to be able to pronounce every Arabic letter in a correct manner, and to avoid falling into changing the meaning of Quranic words. because pronouncing even a single letter in a wrong way is very likely to lead to a change in the meaning, which is of course prohibited.

The well-known Imaan ibn Al-Jazaree says in his poem الْمُقَدِّمَةُ (Al Muqaddemah):
إذْ وَاجِبٌ عَلَيْهِمُ مُحَتَّمُ
قبْلَ الشُّرُوعِ أَوَّلاً أَنْ يَعْلَمُوا
For it is an indispensable obligation upon them (the reciters)
